Join the Friends (pdf)
The Friends of the UMass Lowell Libraries augment the University Libraries by sponsoring a variety of cultural and educational programs of interest to UML faculty, staff, students and alumni as well as the regional community. The goal is to provide additional avenues of enrichment to those already offered by the University.
Alone or in partnership with other campus groups, the Friends have brought many interesting speakers and performers to the UML campus. Past programs have included Out of the Air: The Music and History of the Theremin, a talk and performance by musician Andy Karlok; Merrimack Valley Authors Night with Mary McGarry Morris (Songs in Ordinary Time), Jane Brox (Clearing the Land: Legacies of the American Farm), and John Hanson Mitchell Looking for Mr. Gilbert: The Reimagined Life of an African American; and Nanotechnology: What’s the Big Deal about Something so Small? with Mechanical engineering Professor Julie Chen and Plastics Engineering Associate Professors Joey Mead and Carol Barry.
Each year the Friends of the UMass Lowell Libraries hold a book sale at the University Libraries. The book sales have been wonderful successful events, bringing the campus community together in a fun atmosphere of reading, shopping and discovery. The annual book sale is the main fund raising event for the Friends. The other source of income is member dues.
The Friends are building a community of individuals committed to supporting the mission of the University Libraries as well as the ideal of lifelong learning. Everyone at the University is actively encouraged to join the Friends. Anyone in the greater community with an interest in supporting the University Libraries is welcome as well. Membership in the Friends confers borrowing privileges at Lydon and O’Leary Libraries, advance notice of Friends events, and the opportunity to help enhance the intellectual and cultural environment.
To join The Friends of the UMass Lowell Libraries, please fill out and mail the membership form (pdf).
