INFORMATION RETRIEVAL

84:260

Welcome to the Home page for the required course for Chemistry majors, Information Retrieval. This course is taught by Marion Muskiewicz, Chemistry Librarian, UML and Dr. Ruth Tanner, Professor, Department of Chemistry.  It should be taken concurrently with Dr. Tanner's Organic Chemistry lab, 2nd semester.
The WEB has changed the way we search for and find information.  Most of the important chemical resources are now available on line, often as a subscription. However, it is still important to know how to search the older literature, as many of the syntheses used in Organic Chemistry were done many years ago.  Therefore this course will teach you both how to search for items using material in the Library and how to use the WEB and WEB-based services to find information.

BASIC LIST of sources that you will study in this course, with links to Guideways on many sources.
