Biochemistry
Information
for Graduate Students
There are a number of sources available from the Library, which can be searched for Biochemical topics.
The most important sources are:
SciFinder Scholar: Access to the complete Chemical Abstracts database from 1907-, covering over 9,600 chemical and biochemical journals, plus patents, dissertations and books. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for early Sunday morning. SciFinder Scholar is already set up in the Chemistry research labs on campus as well as being available on any Library PC via installed software. It is also available from your home PC via a PPP (modem) account only. SciFinder Scholar does not work with our Proxyserver. Download instructions for the necessary SFS software here.
For all other library databases, access is available from home as well as on campus. When off-campus, go to "Off-Campus Users Start Here" on the Library home page, and enter your UML full Email address as username, and your Email password as the password. All the databases listed below will work.

LinkSource is a service installed to make it easier for you to check all our electronic resources to see if we have the full text of the citation you have found. In any database, click on the LinkSource link or its icon
and the LinkSource window will open and display a link to the article if it is available in one of our services. It will display a link to our PAC if we have the journal on the shelf, and a link to the E-journal list if the title has a listing.
The UML E-journal list should be checked when trying to find the full text of an article. It offers links to all journals available in full text. We currently have over 26,000 e-journals.
The Library Catalog should be checked for books on your subject. If we don't own a book you need, check our Virtual Catalogs. You may order any book you find in either Virtual Catalog and it will be shipped to Lydon for you. Most items arrive within a few days. The loan period is 30 days but no renewals are allowed. UML's Dissertations Database will give you a list of all theses and dissertations in biochemistry up to 1997. The Proquest Dissertation Database is a gateway to obtaining a copy of any UML thesis or dissertation from 1997-
