1. Locate one patent which gives a preparation of your compound, in SciFinder Scholar. Use the US Patent Website, or FreePatentsOnline to examine your patent.

                a. Print off the first page of the patent. 

                b. Cite the patent.

                c. Locate the detailed section of the patent which describes the preparation and print it off.

                d. Highlight the preparation.

                e. Using structural formulas, write the equation for the preparation.

          2.  Locate a US patent which uses your compound to prepare or identify another compound.

                a. Print off the first page.

                b. Cite the patent.

                c. Locate and highlight the section which describes the use.

                d. Highlight the use. 

       3.  Using Organic Synthesis on the WEB, research the compound assigned to you below.  Print out the entire article.  Cite it in proper format. Identify the following on your printout.  

a.      Author(s) of this synthesis.

b.      Checker(s) of this synthesis.

c.      An acceptable name for each reactant and its registry number.

d.  Has this synthesis been published in a paper by these authors?  Print the SFS abstract of the paper, and show that the synthesis is in the paper.
