Libraries

There are a number of sources available on the Library WEB page which can be searched for Physics topics. Users with cable modem or DSL lines should click on  the "Off-Campus Users Start Here" button on the Library Home page for instant access, using your UML email address and password to log in.  Modem users in Northeastern Massachusetts may use the university as their Internet provider, by applying for a  PPP account.

The most important sources are:

SciFinder Scholar: Access to the complete Chemical Abstracts database from 1907-, covering over 9,600 chemical and physics journals, plus patents, dissertations and books. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for early Sunday morning. SciFinder Scholar is already set up in many of the research labs on campus as well as being available on any Library PC via installed software. Download instructions for the necessary software here. If you wish to search SciFinder from home, you must have a PPP account. [EZProxy will not work with SciFinder]

Compendex: Engineering database with much good material in fields related to physics. Includes good indexing for IEEE materials. Links available via Engineering Direct to full content of Elsevier journals.

IEEE Explore (IEL):This service indexes all IEEE journals, conference proceedings and IEEE standards.  We have FULL-TEXT access to everything in this database. Backfiles are being added by the publisher and will be part of our subscription.

ScienceDirect This service offers FULL CONTENT of 1200 Elsevier Press journals, from 1995- 

Dissertation Abstracts covers nearly all dissertations done in this country.  Our Library has an agreement allowing you to download a complete UML dissertation, if available.[1998-]

• American Physical Society PROLA Archive Access to backfile (-2000) of all APS journals

• Institute of Physics journals:   We have full-text current access to all 33 IOP journals and complete backfiles.

• Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe  this service provides good information on companies and business information. 

• American Chemical Society Journals. FULL CONTENT for 28 titles from the American Chemical Society, including Journal of Physical Chemistry A & B; Complete backfiles for all titles are included.

• Annual Reviews FULL CONTENT to all of these titles [1996-] which contain excellent review articles. 

• Knovel  Database containing over 800 handbooks in science and engineering, searchable by keywords or by property.  Also offers a number of titles with interactive graphing capabilities.

• Infotrac This general service has a few good full-text journals which are unavailable elsewhere--use Expanded Academic Index.

• Toxnet The best place to look if researching anything on toxicity.
  

The computer catalog (PAC) should be checked for books on your subject.  If we do not have the book you need, try the Virtual Catalog which allows you to search for a book in many area colleges, universities and public libraries.  If you find a title you wish to borrow, just click, and it will be sent to Lydon Library for you to borrow for 30 days.  

The UML E-Journal list has a complete listing with links for all journals for which we have e-access and links into our computer catalog to show you what journals we own in paper or microfilem
