ProQuest Social Sciences Database subscriptions added

UMass Lowell Libraries has added six new ProQuest Social Sciences Databases to its collection of online database subscriptions.

New Database Titles

Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts (ASSIA)  is an indexing and abstracting tool covering health, social services, psychology, sociology, economics, politics, race relations and education. It contains records from over 500 journals published in 16 different countries, including the UK and US.

Criminal Justice Periodicals  includes correctional and law enforcement trade publications, crime reports, crime blogs and other material relevant. The database includes abstract and indexing for 250 titles, with more than 100 available in full-text.

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) includes over two million bibliographic references to journal articles and to books, reviews and selected chapters dating back to 1951.  Abstracts are provided for half of all current journal articles and full text availability is continually increasing.

PAIS International contains continually updated records for over half a million journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, conference papers, web content, and more from over 120 countries throughout the world.

PAIS Archive is a retrospective conversion of the PAIS Annual Cumulated Bulletin, volumes 1-62, published 1915-1976. PAIS Archive contains over 1.23 million records and covers monographs, periodical articles, notes and announcements, and analytics. PAIS Archive provides a unique perspective on the 20th century’s most important public and social policies, such as Prohibition, suffrage, pacifism, civil rights, McCarthyism, Vietnam War, and Watergate.

Social Sciences Journals includes over 570 titles, with more than 340 available in full text. Subject coverage includes Anthropology, Communication science, Demography, Economics, Education, Political science, Policy studies, Psychology, Social work, and Sociology.

Trial for State Stats from CQ Press available

UMass Lowell Libraries is offering free trial to the State Stats, a new database resource from the CQ Press Electronic Library. Trial access runs through April 6, 2012.

State Stats features data from more than 80 different government and non-government sources and backed by a rich collection of more than 2,000 current and historical data series on popular topics of research interest. State Stats uniquely allows users to discover, view, and export key information measures for the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The real benefit of State Stats is in its ease of use and clean and concise presentation of data and trends. users easily browse by state or by topic, and then compare across states or across time. Users can then share, save, and export data. State Stats also features CQ Press’s CiteNow!® function for generating source citations in APA, MLA, Chicago, or Bluebook styles. Available features:
