ProQuest Polymer Science Collection available for trial

ProQuest has provided UMass Lowell with trial access to its new Polymer Science Collection database for one-month trial period running from April 19 – May 19, 2011.

The ProQuest Polymer Science Collection combines several ProQuest databases and services:  Polymer Library (formerly Rapra), ProQuest’s new Deep Indexing service, and ProQuest’s new Polymer Science Journals.

UMass Lowell continues to subscribe to the Polymer Library database along with  Advanced Polymer Abstracts both still accessible on the CSA platform. However, ProQuest, which owns CSA, is discontinuing Advanced Polymer Abstracts soon and is offering the Polymer Science Collection as a replacement. This new product is available on the new ProQuest web platform that combines all of the ProQuest databases with CSA databases, so all of ProQuest’s holdings will be accessible in the same online format. Along with this platform change, ProQuest is also introducing several new database products and services, such as several science collections and Deep Indexing.

ProQuest’s new “Deep indexing” service categorizes data, variables and other content represented in tables, maps, graphs, photographs and other figures. It allows users to search and retrieve information from these resources typically embedded in scholarly publications. Applicable journal article records are enhanced with thumbnails showing the tables and figures contained with that article.

The Polymer Science Journals collection combines full text from 275 journals, with 207 of those available to the current issue. 75 journals in total are rated as scholarly peer reviewed, with 35 of those available to the current issue. The remaining 200 journals are primarily trade publications, reports, and magazines. View title list.

Access to this trial is available through the library’s New Database Trials and Subscriptions webpage.
